Protecting Farmland & Human Settlements
Steep topography and shifting climatic weather patterns subject northern Afghanistan to catastrophic seasonal flash floods during spring snowmelts. ODSAD builds permanent, engineered civil structures to protect lives, fertile terraces, and village homes.
In Namakab District, our engineering team completed a 450-meter reinforced stone-masonry retaining wall in partnership with Concern Worldwide, which defends over 350 hectares of prime agricultural land and 4 village settlements from recurring seasonal flash torrents.
Stone-Masonry Retaining Walls
Heavy gravitational masonry retaining walls engineered with deep foundation trenches, drainage weep holes, and cement mortar binding.
Wire Gabion Check Dams
Double-twisted galvanized wire mesh gabions packed with river stone to absorb hydraulic water energy and stabilize seasonal gully routes.
Canal & Drainage Restoration
Rehabilitation of sediment-choked primary agricultural canals and installation of reinforced concrete box culverts for all-weather access.
